Nice ride, I went over those same tracks during Amtrak trip from Cleveland to Jacksonville. 3 hour layover at Union Station from getting off the Capital Limited to getting on Silver Star. I dont know which I like better, crossing the Long Bridge (once owned by my favorite railroad Conrail and its predessors, or going through Amtrak's First Avenue Tunnel.

The double crossover at Edsall 25:00+/- brings back memories. As a trainee inspecting track northbound I was stuck here trying to get track time on a busy day. After not being able to get a response from the dispatcher, I finally decided to get off the track. I continued my efforts to contact the dispatcher on the radio on the way back by highway to Manassas. After getting to the depot the station agent found me and said the dispatcher (in Greensboro, NC)wanted to talk to me. On the phone he asked: Do you want to tell me something." I said: "I've been trying for over an hour to tell you that I'm off the track." Dispatchers get busy and I think it was also around shift time. On the other hand some dispatchers are not as efficient as others; some also tend to ignore the peons. No harm, no foul?

What happened to Potomac Yard, or rather when was it converted to urban sprawl? I Started on Southern Railway (SR) in the early 70's when Manassas to Alexandria was mostly trees. There seems to still be forests near the tracks. In the late 70's I was measuring clearances on SR when you could get to Slater Lane on SR through the Wilkes St Tunnel in Alexandria. Clearances were also measured along the passenger train route from SR tracks to the engine terminal north of Union Station.

Speed here is mostly 55 mph with the occasional 60 and I think 70 once he hits CSX land. Not many freights here but locals. Just Amtrak and VRE otherwise.

Drove that SEPTA New Flyer Hybrid last night in service! I was also the first one to drive this bus on it's first day of revenue service!

one thing I see that's a lttile strang is that CS still lays wood ties but even stranger is Metro is all wood with the exception of the new Silver line build by the air port authority every other transet agerncy has gone to concret

there is one GOOD thing about this ride from Mannasas Va and that the line rather free from subuirban sbrall unlike so many commuter line just a small amount at Manasas Park lets hope the two counties keep it that way

What type of horn does VRE use on their cab cars? I've seen a picture of them, and they don't look familiar, and they sure don't sound like any horn I've ever heard.

I cant wait until the 14000s hit the streets. I do know they went back to the Allison hybrid system on the 14000s and hopefully back to the American seating insight passenger seats.
